Most people want a cheaper energy deal than theyâve currently got â itâs not rocket science, we just want to save money. Bulb have come out and promised us that, with a mission to beat the other suppliers with their excellent customer service and lower prices, as well as a more reliable service.
But are Bulb actually as good as they say they are? Well, weâre going to look at the company in a little closer detail to find out if the company Bulb is as good as their reviews.
Bulb Energy Review
If youâre looking for the cheapest energy providers, then we recommend that you get in touch with Bulb Energy. This is especially true if youâre currently with one of the big six suppliers, as more often than not, they can find you a better deal with no exit fees to worry about and a quick switch between them and your previous supplier.
Theyâre also a good choice if youâre looking for a green energy supplier. All of their electricity is 100% renewable, and 10% of their gas is green too, which is more than many other energy suppliers on the market. Hereâs my 3 main reasons why Bulb stand out from the rest;
- The best app available on the energy market right now, giving you complete bill clarity
- A good level of renewable energy with a commitment to go more green when plausible
- Can often be better than your current energy bill, saving you money over the course of a year
Who are Bulb?
The likelihood is that youâve heard of Bulb, who have been the fastest growing energy company in recent years. In fact, weâve seen a massive increase in market share for the smaller energy companies in the last decade; however nowadays, Bulb could never be classified as a smaller company â itâs one of the big boys, closing in on the âBig Sixâ energy suppliers pretty quickly.

But who are Bulb? Well, theyâre the typical âtwo guys meet, hate their corporate jobs and join together to take over the industryâ story. The energy industry has been notoriously dominated by the top 6 brands â British Gas, E-on, EDF, SSE, Scottish power and N Power â for many years. So, itâs Bulbâs mission to help us get cheaper energy to our home.
Bulbâs Pricing & Tariff
Unlike what you may think, Bulb arenât just another Energy comparison site online â theyâre actual energy suppliers themselves. They pride themselves on having one tariff, which is often going to be the best option for a lot of people.
Essentially, in comparison to the big six the way that they do this is just having lower profit margins than the bigger companies, Bulbâs own revenue and profit shows just how much these larger energy companies have been making off of us for years.
So, the main benefit of switching to Bulb is that youâll be able to get a cheaper energy deal than you were previously. But, this isnât the only benefit. They actually ensure that youâre only using green energy too, which means that the energy is renewable, meaning that the energy can be replaced by natural methods (solar, wind turbines etc). All of the gas provided by the company is carbon neutral, too.
Pros and Cons
There are a bunch of good things to mention about Bulb, but as with energy company, there are a couple of reasons why you may want to check out another supplier instead. Weâre going to look at the key ones now.
Pros
- Across the market, Bulb have some of the lowest costing energy tariffs on the market. This is down to their simple variable tariff, which can help to keep your costs low â just bear in mind that because the rate is variable, it can change at any time.
- Although theyâre not a fully green company, the brand do offer 100% green electricity. This is on par with most green energy suppliers, as green gas is notoriously expensive and difficult to generate in comparison.
- One thing that I like about Bulb is that there are no exit fees if you do choose to switch to another energy supplier at some point. Other companies like Octopus Energy have also taken this stance, and it can only be a good thing for the customer.
Cons
- Whilst Bulb are great with green electricity, they arenât the best around when it comes to green gas. Green Energy UK are currently the only company in the UK that offer both of these together, although their tariffs are typically more expensive.
- Though theyâre still relatively cheap, there have been more reports of prices creeping up with Bulb over the past year. This coincides with a price increase with wholesale energy costs however, so itâs difficult to criticise Bulb for this.
Can I Use with a smart meter with Bulb?
Yes, the good news is that if you already have a smart meter then you can easily use it with Bulb. The even better news is that for people who donât have a smart meter installed (there are a lot of advantages of smart meters), you can easily reach out to Bulb and get a smart meter installed for free, which is part of a national drive to improve energy in our homes.
What is Bulbâs customer Service like?
if youâre wondering how good Bulbâs customer service is, then youâll probably be surprised by just how good it is. Itâs very easy to get in touch with them via their number online, and if youâre tech savvy then you can just use the live chat on their website. This is very simple to use, and you should be able to find a resolution for your problem pretty quickly.
Is Bulb Energy a good company?
For those that arenât convinced as to whether Bulb are a decent company, then all you need to do is head over to their Trust Pilot account. With more than 50,000 reviews and an average of 4.8, itâs fair to say that the majority of their current customers are very happy with the service.
Is it easy to switch to Bulb Energy?
If youâre wondering how easy it is to switch to Bulb, then youâll be glad to know that it can be done with just a few clicks of a button. It literally just takes entering your details, and then theyâll initiate the switch. A few weeks later, youâll have to send them your first meter reading. Art the end of the month, youâll officially become a Bulb member!
Can I cancel my contract with Bulb?
If youâre not happy with Bulb, then you can easily cancel your contract with them and move to another energy provider. They only need 5 days notice for you to cancel your contract with Bulb, so when you find another provider you want to use, theyâll contact Bulb to get your final meter readings and send you your final bill.
Is Bulb Energy too good to be true?
Because everything you see online and read about Bulb tends to be positive, it leads some people to think that they may be âtoo good to be trueâ, or essentially a scam. This isnât actually the case, as theyâre a legit company who have a solid customer base already. However, the truth is that Bulb arenât perfect â they wonât always be the cheapest energy company in your area, so you can sometimes find lower cost energy deals by shopping around.
Conclusion
All in all, itâs definitely worth seeing if Bulb Energy can offer you a better deal than your current energy provider. This is true both if you want to find a cheaper deal, but also if youâre looking for the greenest deal possible as well, as we all have to make an effort to use more sustainable energy practices.
Thereâs no reason why you wouldnât enquire with Bulb and see if they can find you a better energy deal. If youâre tired of dealing with the big six, then it might be worth checking out Bulb as an energy alternative.
